Based on the work of late scribeVince Flynn, American Assassin centers on Mitch Rapp (Dylan O’Brien), a CIA black ops recruit who is fueled by a past tragedy. Brave and exacting to a fault, Mitch is determined to take out as many terrorists, and it’s up to Cold War veteran Stan Hurley (Michael Keaton) to teach him how to efficiently channel that anger and complete the mission.

“Part of the arc of this character that I always loved was that kind of learning curve,” saidO’Brien. “He always thinks the revenge factor – the vengeance – will always be the answer and that will ultimately be what heals him . . . he has, at some point, learn about himself too – this thing he went through, it’s never going to leave him.”
