Although the second half of Teen Wolf‘s final season has just begun, rumors of a spinoff or continuation have already started to make headlines. The future of the show is a question that continues to weigh heavily on the minds of the fans and cast alike, but if it were up to star Melissa Ponzio we’d be welcoming a feature film to the big screen within the next five years.
“I think so,” Ponzio quickly chimed in when asked about the chance of the show returning down the line. “One of the things that we like to talk is we’d really like to see a feature [film] on Teen Wolf maybe two or three from now. MTV is kind of known for that. If they’re going to do one on Jackass, they better do one on Teen Wolf – you know what I’m saying!”
While the future of the franchise remains to be seen, fans still have plenty of time to say goodbye to the characters they’ve come to know and love over the years through the second half of the show’s farewell season. Among the many things fans can look forward to is the continued exploration of Mama McCall’s budding romance with Chris Argent which Ponzio herself admits was something she hadn’t seen coming.
“I thought maybe it was just because we were in this parallel world that that was happening so when we came back and we’re still exploring after 6B [started], I was like oh this is real. This is a real thing. This isn’t happening because all this other cataclysmic stuff is happening. We’ll get to explore it more in 6B,” Ponzio revealed.
But was it fated that a member of the McCall and Argent families would somehow find their way together?
“It’s that thing of Romeo and Juliet, right?” Ponzio pondered. “It’s the two different houses and how they collide. It just kind of worked out that way. I don’t know if it was intentional and I like to say at the beginning of the show, it felt like a show about Romeo and Juliet with some werewolf sprinkled in, and now we just have more.”
As for the fate of our star-crossed lovers and the rest of the Beacon Hills parents?
“I thought I was going to die in the third season,” Ponzio began. “When Papa McCall was back, I literally pulled [co-star] Linden [Ashby] over to the side and I was like, ‘He is going to kill me. Every single character on this show only has one parent and now Scott has two parents in town, so one of us has to go and it’s going to be me. I’m next.’ The fact that I survived this long is amazing.”
While the show will most definitely bring with it closure to many of the series’ ongoing storylines, Ponzio admits that there was one scene that never came to fruition that she would have loved to have seen on the show.
“Other than a day off at the hospital,” Ponzio joked, “one of the things that I always said I thought would have been a great scene, was having all the parents together at a parent-teacher conference or something with the graduation. Just having a really nice, chunky scene with all the parents, because that happens.”
